Der Genitiv Genitive

 

The German genitive case is used to either indicate possession, or ownership. It is marked by pronouns, articles and adjective endings. In Genitive nouns in the masculine and neuter take an “s/es” at the end, as in example: The Pencil of the child. = Der Bleistift des Kindes. 

Feminine and plural nouns don’t take any “s” at the end.

Der Schulbus dieser Schüler kam nicht heute. The schoolbus of these Children did not come today. Beispiele Die Freundin meines Bruders heisst Anja. The Girlfriend of my brother is called Anja. Die Farbe meiner Augen ist schwarz. The Colour of my eyes is black. Die Kinder meines Freundes gehen in die Schule. The children of my friend go to the school.
